Start.ca to Offer Improved Internet Prices and Speeds Following CRTC Decision

September 13, 2019
By the Start.ca Team

Start.ca is excited to announce that our internet service plans just got even friendlier. Improved cable, DSL, and fibre internet plans will be available to customers across Ontario as of October 1st, 2019.

What does that mean for current Start.ca customers?

Existing customers whose plans are improving will see their rates go down and/or their speeds increase. These changes will happen automatically, so you can sit back, relax, and enjoy your new and improved Start.ca internet plan.

Changes in price will be reflected in your next bill and upgraded speeds will take effect by the end of October.

While most of these initial changes affect higher speed plans, we expect further improvements that will benefit every single Start.ca customer out there.

For real?

Yes, this is really happening, and no, it isn’t too good to be true. Start.ca’s decision to offer lower prices and faster speeds comes on the heels of last month’s decision by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) to lower the rates that smaller internet providers pay to access infrastructure owned by major telecom companies.

In 2016, Start.ca made the decision to build a fibre optic network in London, Ontario. This is our own private network and we maintain all of the infrastructure. Although the CRTC decision doesn’t affect our fibre network, we have made the choice to improve fibre plans, just because it’s friendly.

But, why?

“Our mission is to be the most loved, most recommended, and most desired telecommunications provider. We strive to offer the best customer service, which is why a day like today is so exciting. It allows us to pay it forward to our customers,” explains Emily Ferreira, VP of Operations at Start.ca.

The CRTC made the decision in order to benefit consumers by encouraging competition and promoting innovation within the telecommunications industry.

We think this is a huge win for Canadians, who should expect to see fairer internet prices across the board and more dynamic broadband services.
