Start.ca is looking to add a Construction Inspector to their growing team. As a Construction Inspector, you will be reviewing pre-build plans with contractors prior to execution, and reporting day-to-day construction results to management.
What you’ll be doing:
Participating in preliminary reviews of plans, specifications, construction schedules, and drawings.
Inspecting construction activities and work to ensure projects are built according to approved plans, specifications, and design drawings.
Attending site meetings to ensure correct areas are being marked, plans are matched, and resources requested are aligned.
Reporting any constructability issues and discuss possible solutions with the Fibre Infrastructure team.
Ensuring material quantities and project supplies are accurate and available.
Liaising and maintain effective communication between contractors and the Fibre Infrastructure team.
Reviewing projects with management and complete daily/weekly/monthly inspection reports.
Driving company vans/vehicles.
Maintaining a safe work environment by following all required Federal and company guidelines, codes, standards, and legal requirements that may be applicable.
Other appropriate responsibilities relevant to the role today and the role as it may evolve.
The successful candidate will have:
Graduated of a recognized Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related program of study.
Strong communication with the ability to connect, both verbally and in writing, with internal and external stakeholders.
Strong organizational and planning skills coupled with the ability to manage competing priorities.
Sound knowledge of civil construction principles, practices, and techniques.
Working knowledge of construction documents (including utility plans and maps), municipal guidelines, and familiarity with various pieces of construction equipment and their operating capabilities (directional drills, vac trucks, road cut saws, etc.).
Working knowledge of health, safety, and environmental protection practices and procedures as they apply to common construction processes.
Basic AutoCAD knowledge is considered an asset.
Telecommunications construction experience is considered an asset.
Valid G level driver’s license and able to provide a driver’s abstract to meet CVOR requirements.
Please note: Recent graduates with co-op working experience are encouraged to apply.
Ability to safely lift and carry items weighing 70lbs or more.
Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Repetitive motions for prolonged lengths of time may be required.
