Follow Hwy 400/69 to Twelve Mile Bay Rd (Muskoka Rd 12). Go east for about 11 km to Moon River Cottage Rd and turn north. If you continue on this road for about 5 km you will reach two cottage/marina complexes. You should park here (pay any parking fees) and launch a canoe. You need to paddle upstream (east) for about 2 km to the waterfall.

 Description

Thanks to Dave Larkman for this photograph of Moon Falls. You can only visit this waterfall by canoe or boat. Fortunately, it is not a long paddle away from a car park. This is only one of a number of beautiful, unspoiled small-medium sized waterfalls in the western portion of Muskoka. According to Dave, this is a medium size cascade with excellent visitabilty.

The topographic map shows another waterfall located about 600 m further upstream, with Twin Rapids located yet another 1.2 km upstream. The falls are located along a major recreational canoe route that also includes a number of rapids and chutes further east, near Hwy 69. (eg. Seven Sisters Rapids). The more western portion of the river has been designated as a Muskoka Heritage Area.
