 Description

This isn't a big waterfall - most Waterfalls of Ontario readers will probably only visit on their way up to the bigger, prettier falls in Owen Sound. But this is a nice spot, and as it's only 2 minutes off Hwy 6, it shouldn't be skipped. This is a low, wide cascade, perhaps 3-4 m high and about 12-15 m wide. The falls, though low, is interesting. Some might argue that the footbridge across the dam at the top of the falls ruins the view. However, this is evidence of a town using its natural setting to its advantage by incorporating the falls into a great walking trail.

Upstream of the falls is Durham Conservation Area, complete with a small pond used for swimming. For a neat walk, cross the footbridge and walk downstream along the far side of the river. You can make your way down to the water's edge by carefully picking your way through breaks in the rock.

This waterfall is covered in more detail in the print version of "Waterfalls of Ontario."
