 Description

This is a small waterfall along the Oxtongue River, downstream of the much larger, and more visitable Ragged Falls. The falls is separated into a narrow, 3 m high upper cascade and a much wider 3-4 m high lower cascade. The lower falls is broken by several tiny bedrock islands.

I am not sure whether you can freely access these falls by land. The property to the north is definitely private, with a home, lawn and gazebo guarding land approach from this bank. The south side is undeveloped, but when I visited during the winter of 2003, it was up for sale. (if you were wondering, a web check in April 2004 listed the price at 440,000 - a lot with a waterfall demands a good price!) Alas, the best way to visit the waterfall may be by canoe. If you cannot access the falls by land, why not make a day of it and canoe up from Dwight, located a little less than a 2 hour canoe trip downstream. The time is primarly due to the winding nature of the river downstream of the falls.

The falls is barely visible from the highway bridge to the east. Rumour has it that you may be able to obtain permission to visit this waterfall from Copp's Trading Post in Dwight. I have never contacted the Trading Post, so I cannot guarantee access.

This waterfall is covered in more detail in the print version of "Waterfalls of Ontario."
