 Description

This cascade is located about 100 m from the main Bala Falls. The falls are caused by water that drains from Bala Bay of Lake Muskoka to the Moon River. In the photograph, you can just see the buttresses for the small dam in the distance. The first bridge crossing the river is the CP rail line that connects Toronto to Perry Sound and Sudbury. The second bridge is a narrow road bridge that you can walk or drive over.

There may be a way to get to the river bed from the side of the road bridge, but I couldn't see a safe way to descend to the river bed from the parking lot or from Muskoka #169. A retaining wall some 3 to 5 m high separates the river from the parking lot. It really isn't worth getting to the stream bed at this falls: the photo angle from the parking lot is good, and the area that you can walk around is limited to what you can see in the photo.

Refer to the entry for the main Bala Falls for some interesting web links.
