 Description

This is a low, wide cascade in the small settlement of Appleton. The river drops perhaps 3 to 4 meters through a long, wide reach littered with small limestone blocks before widening below the rapids. The rapids are nothing special, and are not worth a major detour. Furthermore, most of the land around the lower portion of the rapids (the best place to obtain a photograph) is private.

The grey shell of an old concrete building on the left bank of the rapids adds some charm to the site. Unfortunately, much of the charm is lost by the long, low concrete weir constructed upstream of the rapids to maintain water levels. This waterfall used to be referred to as "Apple Tree Falls".

QUESTION: Does anyone know the history of the abandoned concrete building on the left bank of the river?
