Dialup Internet Setup for Windows NT

Step 1.

You will have to ensure that the "Remote Access Service" is running on your NT machine. To do this, select the Networking icon from the control panel. Select the Services tab, and you should see "Remote Access Service" listed in the Network Services window.

If you do have the service running then skip to step 2.

If you do not have the service running you will have to add it by selecting Add, selecting the Remote Access Service from the list, and then selecting OK. Select Continue at the "Remote Access Setup" screen to accept the defaults. Select Close at the "Network" details window, and you will then likely have to reboot your machine.

Step 2.

Select Start, then Programs then Accessories then Dial-Up Networking then click on the New button to start creating a new dialup networking profile.

Step 3.

You will see a screen similar to the one below. You will need to complete the "Entry name", "Country code", "Area code" and "Phone number" with the applicable values.

Step 4.

Once the information in step 3 is entered, select the Server tab which should give you a screen which looks similar to the one below. Ensure that the IPX/SPX and NetBEUI options are disabled, then click OK.

Don't forget to delete any old phonebook entries you may have that are no longer in use.

Now you are ready connect to the Internet by pressing the Dial button, Windows NT will ask you for your username and password which need to be completed, however you can leave the domain field blank.
